Central Coast Community Chest Chairman’s Report 2006

On so many levels 2006 was the result of an optimistic business plan formulated in 2003 and upgraded by the board last year.    Successful events to underwrite the administration costs including an exciting new addition; increased capacity to support community partners and an increased community profile.

It is therefore with pride that we present to you a new look Annual Report which we believe will better encapsulate what the Central Coast Community Chest has achieved with and for the Central Coast community during 2006.

Highlights have been many and varied -

  1. The Meggs Billy Cart Derby; a first for Gosford, with a huge
potential for expansion to Wyong LGA and tourism for the region
  2. Excellent promotion on 2GO via CSAs
  3. 14 McDonalds stores raised a record $23 527 in one promotion
  4. Express Advocate Community Contribution of the Year Award
  5. Community Chest float entry inThe Entrance Mardi Gras parade
was runner up for Best Decorated and Comical in the community category;  our Queen entrant, Clare King was voted most popular
    by the other entrants.
  6. Launch of the Central Coast Community Chest Trust with the Iris Foundation as its first member
  7. Chester, the Community Chest own Pelican was born
  8. Business Manager and Chair attended UWI International World Assembly in Melbourne courtesy of the Chrysler Foundation
  9. Incredible support from the business community for all events
  10. Amazing support from our volunteers

The most important highlight, however, was that we were able to allocate
a record breaking $103 389.35.   This is what Workplace Giving is all
about; enhancing and the capacity of human care organisations on the Central Coast.

A few Corporate Partners opt for charity of choice, and that is their decision, the original United Way concept, and one that remains relevant today, is that funds are allocated on a demonstrated needs basis in order
to maximise the local charity dollar.

Quarterly allocations enable our Community Partners to access funds
when needed and last year one of our beneficiaries, Yarran Early Intervention Centre, had an end of year emergency which we were able
to fund only because funds were not tied to a ‘choice’ regime.

While 2006 was a record year in so many ways, unfortunately it was not as record for one off donations which will reflect in allocations in 2007.  It
was hoped that the Prime Ministers Community business Partnership would encourage more corporate involvement in corporate social responsibility
or CSR. United Way Australia of which we are an affiliate, was one of the three chosen representative charities and it is anticipated that an ongoing relationship will benefit the Central Coast in the future.

In the meantime, we have a focused and dedicated staff and board who
will continue to work for and on behalf of the community partners who deserve our support.
